Dr. Alireza Panahpour, DDS
Fourth generation. Thirty years in practice.
Dr. Panahpour sat in his father's dental chair at ten years old. He went on to pre-medical studies at UCLA and Cal State Northridge, a DDS from the University of the Pacific, postgraduate work at NYU, a master's in electro-acupuncture at Columbia, biomimetic training in Sardinia and implantology in Sweden, the year Sweden banned mercury.
He is the author of The Good Dentist, a Certified Instructor of Biomimetic Dentistry, and the dentist other doctors call when a patient has run out of answers.

What people ask before booking.
What is the difference between a holistic and a biological dentist?
The terms overlap. Holistic describes looking at the mouth in the context of your whole health. Biological describes choosing materials and methods for how the body responds to them, such as mercury safe removal and metal free implants. Dr. Panahpour practises both, and calls the combined approach systemic dentistry.
Do you remove silver amalgam fillings safely?
Yes. Amalgam is removed under the IAOMT SMART protocol, which isolates the tooth, captures vapour and particles at the source, gives you a separate air supply and filters the room. Dr. Panahpour is IAOMT certified.
Do you offer metal free implants in Santa Monica?
Yes. Zirconia implants are ceramic and contain no titanium. Dr. Panahpour has placed them since 2001 and plans each one with 3D cone beam imaging.
What is a cavitation and how do you find one?
A cavitation is an area of bone that did not heal properly after an extraction, often a wisdom tooth. It frequently does not show on a standard 2D x-ray, which is why we use cone beam CT imaging to look for it.
Do I need a referral to book?
No. Many patients are referred by their physician, chiropractor or another practitioner, but you are welcome to contact us directly.
